Are you being heard?

We need communities where neighborhoods are committed to their collective liberation, where power is held and exercised at the grassroots, and where governance is accountable, accessible, and transparent to the people.

We must make participatory budgeting a cornerstone of municipal governance and empower Birmingham residents to challenge their city government to meet this end.

We believe that how a city chooses to spend our tax dollars is how they show us their priorities. Learn more about Birmingham City’s priorities and the People’s Priorities below.

Who knows best what the we need than the people who live and experience public investment everyday. Share how you feel about the Birmingham city budget!

Public Resources

  • We deserve fair and dependable resources for neighborhood associations so they can better serve their neighborhoods
  • We deserve generous and long-term investment in public goods like parks, libraries, community centers, and public transportation, and other public infrastructure
  • We deserve a commitment to resource and experiment with non-violent alternatives to policing and emergency response

Collective Control

  • We demand an end the near total control the Mayor has over the city budget
  • We demand city councilors regain the power to make changes to the city budget that best meet the needs of the people they represent
  • We demand that participatory budgeting be implemented so residents have direct influence and control over how the city spends their tax dollars

This is your city. Make your voice heard!

Our liberation is bound to one another. We don’t just work with the people; we are the people.
